After the commercial flop that was the Nintendo Wii U, is great to see that the vastly more successful Nintendo Switch is going strong into its 5th year since it hit the market; a console that has kept proving that Nintendo learnt from all of the mistakes they made with their previous console.
Just recently, as a matter of fact, the Nintendo Switch was revealed to have surpassed lifetime sales of the original Nintendo Entertainment System(NES) with a very impressive 62 million units sold since its launch in March of 2017, and positioning itself as one of Nintendo's best-selling consoles.
The Nintendo Switch is, without the shadow of a doubt, the little engine that could, and new information reveals that the popular hybrid console has managed to hit yet another milestone in terms of sales.
According to NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella, the Nintendo Switch has managed to sell more units in hardware in the third quarter of this year than any other video game platform, which is something that hasn't been seen since the Nintendo DS set the record in Q3 of 2009.

"We continue to see more video game players, playing for more hours, across more devices. We can anticipate another record-breaking quarter in Q4, in large part due to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles entering the market with one of the fastest-selling consoles in U.S. history, the Nintendo Switch," explained Piscatella.
Nintendo Switch sales shouldn't be too affected by the release of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox SeriesX|S, but it is true that the handheld hybrid system will indeed be challenged by its competitors. With that said, it is a good sign to see the Nintendo Switch breaking records set by the company's best-selling console of all time, the Nintendo DS.
