New York City-based Omgpop (Cupcake Corner), which develops casual/social titles and operates a self-titled multiplayer gaming portal, has raised $10.1 million in a second round of funding. New investors Rho Capital and Softbank led the financing round, while existing backers Spark Capital and Betaworks also participated, according to a report from PaidContent. The firm previously raised $5 million in early 2009 and $1.5 million in the year before. Omgpop intends to devote the new cash to expanding its lineup of games, and will launch five new titles for both Facebook and iPhone in the next six months. The developer says it will consider acquiring mobile and social developers with the new funding, too. Initially positioned as a dating-themed social network called I'minlikewithyou in 2006, Omgpop has since shifted its focus to releasing free-to-play online games with social features, such as the Missile Command remake that launched on its portal last February. It recently began putting its games on Facebook, too. Omgpop's most popular title on the social network, Cupcake Corner, has nearly 1.6 million monthly active users. The developer says its games are attracting over 50,000 new users each day.
