Red Robot Acquires Supermono, Opens London Offices

Mobile gaming start-up Red Robot Labs has announced its move into the UK mobile games market, with plans to open new offices in London, and the acquisition of UK mobile games company Supermono. The company is looking to build its offering of games up by focusing on the expansion of its R2 geo-gaming platform, and its new London offices will assist its existing Palo Alto, California-based headquarters in doing so. Supermono, founded by ex-Lionhead staffer Tak Fung, is best known for such popular mobile titles as EpicWin, Forever Drive, Minisquadron and Fox vs Duck. Red Robot also revealed that it has added Phil Harrison, formerly an executive at both Sony Computer Entertainment and Atari, as a company advisor. The move into the UK market follows the news that Red Robot raised $8.5 million in funding during September for its popular location-based mobile MMO title Life is Crime. Mike Ouye, CEO and co-founder of Red Robot Labs, explained, "With this new venture, Red Robot is continuing to fulfill its vision of creating the most engaging and dynamic location-based games in mobile." Harrison added, "I'm really impressed with what the team at Red Robot has achieved in less than a year. Life Is Crime has proven their ability to succeed in the mobile game space and the addition of the UK studio gives the company access to even more talent."
