RIM reveals Game Center style social hub for BlackBerry devices

As part of BlackBerry owner RIM's newly founded focus on the mobile gaming market, the company this week revealed a new standalone app that will act as a social hub and discovery tool for BlackBerry devices and the upcoming BlackBerry 10 mobile operating system. 'Games', as the new hub is simply known, will be integrated with BlackBerry Messenger and Scoreloop's social gaming network, reports Pocket Gamer, and will act as the BlackBerry equivalent to Apple's own Game Center for iOS devices. RIM also plans to integrate multiplayer gaming options into the hub, with turn-based and real-time online games working directly through the app. The company also revealed that its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is set to receive ports of over 50 classic Amiga games soon, with an exclusivity period in place, although it has not yet confirmed how long this will be. Earlier this week, the company announced a handful of big-name mobile games that are headed to BlackBerry devices, while also revealing a $10,000 incentive guarantee for developers.
