SOE Takes Down Station.com As 'Intrusion' Investigation Continues

In the wake of PlayStation Network attacks, EverQuest and DC Universe Online developer Sony Online Entertainment on Monday said it had to immediately shut down its Station.com PC online gaming service. "We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately," the statement said. "We will provide an update later today (Monday)." SOE develops games for both PS3 and PC. While the company's console business had been affected by the PSN outage the PC side had continued its operations until now. SOE's investigation into the "intrusion" into its systems follows a PSN outage that affected 77 million registered accounts, including 10 million which are directly tied to credit card numbers that may have been compromised. SOE has not explicitly confirmed whether its shutdown is directly related to the PSN attacks. Sony executives over the weekend detailed a plan to bring PSN back online and offered additional details in regards to the security breach. The company will try to make amends with users through a "welcome back" program that includes a free month of PlayStation Plus content.
